Hot stone massage: how heat therapy works

Hot stone massage uses basalt stones, chosen for their ability to retain heat, warmed to a comfortable (not scalding) temperature before the session. Basalt is a smooth volcanic stone, ideal for direct skin contact.

The therapist uses the stones in two ways: as an actual massage tool, gliding them along the muscles, and as a static element, rested on major tension points, where heat gradually penetrates deeper.

Heat produces an effect manual pressure alone can't replicate as quickly: it dilates blood vessels, relaxes muscle fibers from the surface down, and shortens the time needed for contracted muscle to release.

It suits anyone with chronic muscle tension, anyone sensitive to cold or with sluggish circulation, and anyone wanting a memorable session, different from a classic massage. We don't recommend this service in case of pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes, severe cardiovascular conditions, or heat-sensitive skin.

At Touch of Thailand, stone temperature is checked continuously throughout the session, and the therapist adjusts direct contact based on each client's tolerance.
