Lomi Lomi Nui: what Hawaiian massage is and who it suits

Lomi Lomi Nui comes from Hawaii, not Asia — the only ritual on our menu with Polynesian roots, included precisely for the contrast it brings. The name roughly means "to knead, to rub, to make flow" — a fitting description for a technique built around continuous movement.

The therapist uses forearms, palms and sometimes elbows in long, smooth movements that barely pause throughout the session — unlike Traditional Thai Massage, where pressure comes in discrete bursts. Warm oil supports the continuous glide of each stroke.

The Hawaiian philosophy behind the technique treats tension as more than a muscular issue — something held emotionally too, hence the focus on movements that "carry" tension out of the body rather than dissolving it locally. Clients often describe the sensation as almost hypnotic.

It suits anyone wanting a deeply relaxing experience, distinct from point-pressure techniques, and anyone curious to try a massage tradition less familiar in Romania. We don't recommend this service, without adaptation, for people with active skin conditions.

At Touch of Thailand, Lomi Lomi Nui is a recent addition to the menu, meant for clients who've already tried our Thai techniques and want something new, but just as authentic.
